The Day My Shadow Quit

My shadow and I, we were quite the pair,
Following each other everywhere.
But one sunny day, it gave a big sigh,
“I’m tired of copying you,” was its cry.

It peeled off the ground, stood up tall and proud,
“I’m going solo,” it said, quite loud.
It walked to the park, tried the swing and slide,
While I stood still, mouth open wide.

My shadow danced, sang, and did cartwheels with glee,
Enjoying its freedom, happy to be “me.”
It made shadow puppets on its very own,
And had conversations in shadow-tone.

But as the day ended, my shadow grew sad,
Being alone wasn’t all that rad.
It missed our adventures, our trips, and our play,
And decided that leaving was not okay.

So now we’re together, my shadow and I,
But sometimes I catch it practicing cartwheels on the sly!
